Introducing: Ceitidh Mac – Goldfinches

Ceitidh Mac’s newest single, Goldfinches, marks her first time producing with Calum Howard and extends her partnership with recording engineer Sam Grant. This song pushes gently at the edges, forcing Mac to avoid settling into a traditional or established alt.folk sound. The lyrics are somewhat abstract, but we believe they depict the world we live in.

Goldfinches is divided into two sections, with each having its own unique tone. The first section, which is introduced by the lyrics ”Two Goldfinches in your mouth”, is light and ethereal, conveying the feeling of being outdoors in the open air. The second section develops into something more introspective and poetic, exploring the idea of time and existence. The line I like the most here has to be ”Flora oh flora, respiring in the sun.”
