Sometimes, we need a distraction from the day-to-day in order to get our creative juices flowing. For the indie band Colorvision, that meant taking a trip to Los Angeles for a week-long writing retreat. While out on rides in the city, they noticed an abundance of vanity plates and began to think about the path one takes in life. This question became the inspiration for their latest song, Vanity Plates. In the studio, the band played around with a slinky groove that became the backbone of the song. But it was back in NY where the real work got done. The boldness and precision of a concise vanity plate became the guiding force for the production.
