It’s almost impossible to know who you can rely on these days. With all the noise and chaos in the world, we can easily feel overwhelmed and doubt ourselves.
That’s what Ruby Moss’ new song, Pretend, is all about. It discusses how society gaslights us into believing things are okay when they are not. We’re taught to put on a brave face and not make a fuss. But ultimately, we need to trust our own instincts and listen to our gut.
Pretend has an indie rock sound that I like. The guitar-driven melodies provide most of the energy for the production, and they’re what will keep you tapping your fingers. Ruby’s vocals contrast well with the drums and bassline, pulling you into the story almost instantly. The flute adds some subtlety to the sonic landscape.
