Not Your Body, TeZATalks’ newest single, is an anthem full of power. Her gritty vocals cut through the upbeat anthem like a knife carving its way to the heart of us all. TeZATalks takes pride in her inclusive values, and Not Your Body is only a small fraction of how deeply they care about keeping the conversation of bodily autonomy, diversity and inclusivity alive. The single is a part of TeZATalks’ new album, Black Girl American Horror Story.
The album is dedicated not only to their experience as a black woman in America, but to all other black girls and women who are sick of their experiences being displayed as graphic, upsetting or traumatic. That’s what makes Not Your Body so enigmatic and important: It’s a let-loose, fun, feeling-myself-but-you-can’t-feel-me powerhouse. With its catchy hook and dance-beat, the track lures you in to its explosive message: Our bodies are ours. Our decisions on what to do with our bodies or who is granted access to our bodies is ours. The single is universal, especially in such uncertain and frightening times with the #MeToo movement or the overturning of Roe v. Wade. TeZATalks is not only a motivational storyteller with killer pipes, but they’re also an ally willing and ready to fight for us.
