You just can’t seem to shake that one person. No matter how hard you try, they always seem to find their way back into your life. But you’re done. You’re tired of being lied to. Suddenly, you feel the need to break free and start over!
London-based Art Pop duo pecq, consisting of Nikò O’Brien and Hannah (Jakes) Jacobs, describe the experience of stepping out of a manipulative relationship in their new single, It’s a Lie. It emphasizes the importance of being true to yourself and not letting others define you.
The production values are high throughout, with the track benefiting from a well-balanced, professional mix. The synths are layered over a rhythmic, taut drum beat that anchors It’s a Lie and gives it the momentum it needs. This combination of elements results in a sonic landscape that’s both evocative and moving.
Hannah has a powerful, crystal-clear voice that rises above the noise easily. But what I find most impressive is the way she maintains her tone. She’s able to hit every note without falling off pitch. And she does it with such emotion.
The visuals for It’s a Lie are eye-catching and memorable. The entire music video is shot in a mystical, shadowy environment, with only a few flickering lights to guide the way. Seeing them will make you wonder if you’re dreaming.
