UK artist Gayaneh Lara was walking home one day, when she spied a dark spot on a wall. She flinched instinctively, worried it might be a spider. It wasn’t, but that experience led her to write scary, a song about the things that scare her. Gayaneh is very honest in her lyrics, and she doesn’t shy away from naming even the smallest fears.
The piano accompaniment provides the perfect backdrop to Gayaneh vulnerable narrative, gently carrying her thoughts and emotions, but also making the track more accessible and relatable to a wide audience.
In parts of the song, the arrangement become more sparse, allowing Gayaneh’s soulful voice to take the lead. Her ability to keep her intonation steady during these sections creates a sense of comfort and warmth.
