Ann Gray was inspired to write Sorry Excuse after reading Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights and becoming fascinated by the tumultuous relationship between Catherine and Heathcliff. She used everyday imagery to make the lyrics relatable to everyone.
With Sorry Excuse, Gray opts for an acoustic sound that instantly gets under your skin. The guitar melodies are mellow, but still convey so much emotion. They reflect the tone of the lyrics with remarkable precision.
Sorry Excuse is absolutely amazing. It shows Gray’s creativity to the fullest, while also offering hints at what her style may evolve into. I think she has a bright future ahead of her.
