Singer-songwriter Meg Smith does things her way. Joni has a smooth pop sound that builds gradually and surprises you with its unexpected twists. I particularly enjoy the guitar here, since it gives the soundscape more texture. A special mention should go to the vocals, given how heartfelt they sound.
This song is about feeling left behind by someone you love. As painful as it was for Meg to realize, she couldn’t force ‘Joni’ to stay in her life. If someone leaves you behind, you have to deal with the grief that follows!
