Eora/Sydney-based alternative-pop artist Sarah Yagki returns with her harrowing new single, Just Like Me. It’s driven by eerie guitars and steady drums that make the sound dynamic. The chorus is particularly intense, taking you to a whole different world in a matter of seconds. There are some more calm moments as well, so the production feels balanced. I’m very impressed with the vocal quality.
Just Like Me tells the story of Sarah watching someone she loved hurt themselves during a manic episode. She walked into that situation without knowing what was happening, and watched the person hurt themselves in front of her while blaming her. The song is about watching a loved one go through their lowest points of mental health, and the impact it has on you.
