For 19-year-old singer-songwriter Ava Earl, a life-changing diagnosis led to the creation of her most personal song yet. After losing hearing in her right ear, Ava had to deal with a lot of emotions that took months to process. Just when she thought she had gained some peace, the lyrics for Ears Bleed came pouring out, surprising her with a pain that was still deeply felt. The song is Ava’s way of coping with her one-sided deafness. As she wrote it, she found a way to transform her sadness into empowerment and growth.
Ears Bleed features wonderful organic instrumentation, with a guitar at the forefront. The vocals are both emotional and honest, so you want to listen to them. Particularly during the verses, when the sound slows down a bit, Ava’s performance really shines.
