Laila is an actress and singer/songwriter of Jordanian-Canadian descent. She releases her new single, I Hope It Kills You. It comes with sparkling strings and a cogent piano arrangement. The vocals, similar to those of Ariane Grande, are earnest, and their energy spreads quickly. You can really feel the heart behind the lyrics.
I Hope It Kills You explores the pain of a lover leaving you for a friend, which stings. Despite choosing the high road in handling the heartbreak, there’s a lingering hope for karma to play its part. It doesn’t make you automatically the villain, though. Don’t forget that.
