Singer-songwriter Anna Curreen releases her new single, Where is the Water. It talks about the experience of re-entering consciousness following a period of dissociation. All sorts of things have been taken away, such as friends and opportunities. And for some reason, the world feels scary, as if you have to fight it alone. Happiness doesn’t seem to be achieved by anything. This causes you to return to numbness.
Where is the Water has an intentional slow burn and build to put emphasis on the lyrics during the verses, and the melody and atmosphere during the chorus and bridge. I love the sincerity of the vocals. The outro comes across as sonically complex.
Curreen tells the truth here. She expresses what many people feel, but don’t express. Hopefully, this will encourage society to talk about their emotions more openly.
