Madrid-based dream-pop artist april june unveils carry you on my broken wings, the lead single of her sophomore EP, baby’s out of luck again. It outlines a tumultuous, intense relationship studded with danger and passion. The imagery conjures up a feeling of living on the edge, referring to casinos, guns, and fistfights.
The music video is heavily influenced by the Giallo genre, known for its concoction of horror, mystery, and thriller factors, with a particular homage to the renowned Italian director Dario Argento. The setting is Turin, a city famously featured in Argento’s film Profondo Rosso. Thematically, the video examines the concept of a ‘real’ self and a ‘shadow’ self.
carry you on my broken wings is composed of dreamy synths and superbly sung vocals. During the chorus, something seems to be happening beyond your expectations. There’s also a lot of attention to fine details across the board.
