Israeli-composer-guitarist Avinoam Ettun has the dream of creating a classically jazz paradise through his music. To try and make it happen, he put out this EP called Searching for Colors. It sounds like something out of a fairy tale, so hypnotic you can’t help but be starstruck.
A Tale of Three Balloons opens the project. The strings collide here and result in a Disney-like vibe that brings fresh life into vintage coolness. I also love the subtle guitar playing, as it brings that unexpected change of pace. The World Needs Healing takes a more traditional jazz approach. Instruments like the double bass are groove-producing. The sax sustains the momentum.
Ear Illusion has wonderful key structures. An elegant guitar accompanies this. The strings also contribute to the bigger scheme. Despite being mellow, the song does its job well. Melodically Involved ends the EP. It’s somewhat sad, and perhaps Ettun intended that. You’ll feel like the last leaves have fallen from the threes, and there’s only music left.
In some cases, it isn’t necessary to use words to express yourself. Ettun proves this by composing non-vocal music so full of emotion that it makes you wonder how he does it. We love Searching for Colors, and we hope the rising star found what he was looking for. The project and a live version of Ear Illusion can be found below!
