The Southedelic rock scene is about to get a major shake-up, courtesy of Athens’ own Heart of Pine. These Georgia boys are serving up a sizzling sonic feast that’ll have your mind expanding. Their new LP, Southern Soul Revival, is an epic rollercoaster ride through the rich landscapes of Southern rock and the kaleidoscopic realms of psychedelia.
Gone starts off things traditionally arranged. I’m fascinated by its slow, yet powerful unfolding. Following the opener, Hello Heartache cranks up the intensity. This track brilliantly builds upon the foundation laid by Gone. Movin’ On puts the spotlight squarely on the lyrics, more so during the chorus. The album continues its path with Fool’s Game. This track sustains a stable energy, indicating that Heart of Pine has everything under control,
This Way swings gently. Its sax is simply sublime, adding refinement to the already stellar instrumentation. It’s refreshing and oh-so-smooth! Next up, Voodoo Leg Bone brings the funk with its robust guitar playing. Then, She Belongs To Me swoops in as perhaps the most poppy track on the album. Buckle up, because EmGab takes us on another groovy escapade. The drums here are absolutely insane, it’s like lightning has been bottled and unleashed. And let’s not lose sight of that key structure. Last but certainly not least, Phetamine & Pearls closes out the album with a bang.
Heart of Pine are back in action. Southern Soul Revival recalls some kind of Renaissance. It’s safe to say I’m fan. Check out the project below!
