Last October, Canadian singer-songwriter Laila released Heart Doesn’t Work That Way. It features indie-pop production, which evolves steadily without getting frantic. I admire the more dreamy layers of the singing, making the contrast feels correct.
Heart Doesn’t Work That Way narrates Laila’s inner conflict as she reminisces about her lost love, haunted by the memories of the past. The lyrics deal with regret, self-blame, and a refusal to let go, even when trying to distract the mind from negative thoughts.
