The Coo is a serendipitous collaboration between singer-songwriters Matt Arthur (UK) and Jara Holdert (NL). They recently shared About Time. The song resolves around time and what could’ve happened if things went differently. The artists are basically asking themselves – if we could go back and live our relationship over again, would my partner have made a different choice? Or was their mind already made up no matter what?
I can imagine it must have been really special for The Coo to record the initial vocals and instruments for that song live straight to a Tascam 388 tape machine – there’s just something intimate about capturing a performance that way. And then to build the song up from that vulnerable starting point by adding extra synth and guitar layers afterwards, really taking it to a higher level of complexity.
