Emmrose’s latest single, New Era, is a powerful commentary on the turmoil and upheaval that has rocked the arts community and society at large in recent times. There’s an undercurrent of anger and frustration, but also a determination to find stability and footing. The song’s tense, eerie vibe is accentuated by Orofino’s expert use of baritone guitar tones, distortion, and inventive production effects.
Emmrose wanted the song to feel cinematic. Like you’re trapped in a surreal nightmare, but the soundscape is still oddly beautiful. One of the track’s most striking features is a wild, glitchy synth line that sounds like “a rusty broken machine,” courtesy of producer Richard. “Getting to actually turn the distortion knob and shape that part was so much fun,” Emmrose recalls with enthusiasm.
While it tackles a complex subject matter, New Era ultimately focuses on coping with chaos and change rather than getting beaten by it. Holding on to hope is the only thing we can do in the end. There’s no other option.
