There are certain objects that can instantaneously carry you through time, flooding your mind with memories, right? For singer-songwriter B. Miles, it’s Christmas socks – her ex’s Christmas socks, to be exact. She sings about it in Xmas Sox. While dealing with the aftermath of her breakup, those socks unexpectedly became a metaphor of sorts. They’re an item most people have, but they’re often tucked away and hidden from sight, just like the emotions she kept bottled up about her relationship. There’s something almost romantic about continuing to wear something that once brought such comfort and charm, especially around the holidays, even though its meaning has shifted to something more melancholy now.
Xmas Sox has this really cool indie pop vibe to it. It doesn’t sound like your typical cheesy holiday tune. B. Miles is doing her own unique thing, which I dig. And frankly, the vocals are what make it for me. The emotion behind them just feels so genuine. You can really connect with the raw feelings B. Miles is putting out there.
