Mathilde Lunderskov is the woman behind Nathav, which means “Night Sea” in Danish. Teetering on the brink of the abyss, her songs contain themes of heartbreak, doomed romances, and existential angst – but with an undercurrent of lightness.
Moon River is Nathav’s sophomore EP, and it’s got that cinematic vibe to keep you going through the cold, dark winter ahead. It kicks off with You Still Miss Her – the piano keys are super moody and emotional, yet the electronics try to keep the feeling of warmth alive. The lyrics are all about pursuing your passion on your own terms, even though people doubt you since you got a later start. They just don’t see how genuine and perfect your love for it is.
Boy Model keeps the project going strong. I’m really digging the smooth, jazzy vocals over that chilled-out, dreamy production. The lyrics seem to explore the life of a young male model in NYC – stressing the emptiness of his surface existence, loneliness, and his use of escapism to cope.
The title track is really something else. It starts off classical, but then it builds into this huge, anthemic sound. The way it unfolds is so clever – it keeps you wondering how all the pieces are gonna fit together. And man, that final section? A real rollercoaster, I’m telling you. The lyrics feel movie-like.
Look at us Now wraps up the project. It revolves around the heartbreaking events that happen when a relationship reaches its final stages. The song was recorded live on tape, so there are some cracks and noises in the background. However, it only adds to the realism of the story. And yes, there’s some fantastic singing here.
Nathav’s music is seriously on point. It’s the kind we need right now – not just surface-level tunes, but tracks with real weight and meaning behind them. You’ve gotta give Moon River a listen. Perhaps your life will be changed by it!
