Blue Monkey (also known as Charlee Remitz) releases her new single, Dive Bar Christmas, which talks about embracing freedom of expression. She wrote it as an acknowledgement that traditions evolve over time. It can feel kinda heavy thinking about how things inevitably change and fade away. But the core message is to stay open to new prospects. Don’t get too hung up on how holidays “should” be celebrated. Every holiday holds whatever meaning you give it, whether you go all out or keep it low-key at the dive bar. The song invites you to make your own traditions without judgment.
Dive Bar Christmas shares a musical similarity with Kacey Musgraves. The way the guitars move around is really nice, and I dig how the harmonica and steady drumbeat give it this laid-back, almost twangy feel. The vocals are impeccable, providing iconic delivery.
