When listening to music, it’s nice to hear something that offers certainty, that changes the way your thoughts are organized. Eric Cannata is an artist who brings balance. He makes you see life differently. With his new album, Holding Onto The Holy, Cannata provides a collection of tunes that can stand on their own.
There You Go Again, inspired by the drama of the 60’s Wall of Sound production style, embraces nostalgia in the best way possible. It’s a solid start of the project, and you’re left wanting more.
And that’s what you get. How about The Wave, for example? It has a Motown-esque groove with dreamy vocals that land on the backdrop like an angel. The lyrics imagine a tidal wave coming toward the coast of California, after the ‘Big One’ earthquake hits. As everyone runs for safety, Cannata makes his way to the beach to celebrate his demise.
A song like Over & Over also immediately charms with its straightforward but catchy guitar tones. Although the overall production becomes quite complex over time. Fruit, number eight, probably has the most catchy sound. It makes you feel totally badass for a moment.
The last tune I want to discuss is I Still Love You. It tells the story of Cannata loving someone in spite of her little quirks. It’s very cute and the acoustic aesthetic reflects the purity of the message he aims to get across. Brilliantly done.
I think Holding Onto The Holy adds soul to the world. It has genuinely not been overproduced in any way. Cannata kept things super organic, so kudos to him. Choosing which album to check out today or tomorrow shouldn’t be difficult for you at this point.
