Swedish artist Alex Runo and definitely deserves worldwide recognition. ‘Why?’ you might think. Well, I’ve the answer for you. It’s because Alex makes music of the highest quality. He always goes for it, which comes through in his songs.
Alex recently released his EP, titled Living & Breathing. And oh my goodness, it’s an absolute masterpiece. The project starts off so promisingly. No Good One features solid guitar riffs that establish a gritty undertone during the chorus. But the bridge, for example, is more poppy, which makes things feel varied. The lyrics talk about the universal experience of battling inner demons of all kinds, whether they’re significant or seemingly trivial.
Track number two, Living & Breathing, is quiet with piano melodies that float like bubbles. The vocals are angelic and sweetly delivered. Alex mentions the fragility of love and the difficulty of letting go, even when it’s necessary.
Paper Love follows a thoughtful plot, with Alex painting love as delicate and easily torn like paper, yet incredibly challenging to part with. It surprises musically too. All the different textures at the end are so cool.
White Flag, which proposes that sometimes the courageous choice is to admit defeat and surrender, strikes back with energy. I’d like to give a shout-out to the guitar-work once again for being so fresh. Great vocal layering too. I Am More Than This draws attention due to its singer-songwriter sound. The song’s melodies will make your soul dance, for sure. Alex reflects on self-awareness and living a life that may not align with what he really wants. Last but not least, there’s a live studio version of White Flag, a fitting conclusion to the project.
You can really hear Alex’s drive here. Simply magical. I understand the reason they appreciate Alex so much in Sweden, he’s different. Nobody is truly comparable to him.
