New York City-based indie-pop artist Maddie Regent reveals her hauntingly beautiful new single, Turtleneck, from her upcoming debut album, On the phone with my mom, out May 16th.
The song has personal meaning, tackling the emotional limbo of a post-breakup state, where the past feels safer and more familiar than the uncertain present. Although you’re happy that you decided to leave, it still feels strange. And over time, you tend to forget the bad memories and see someone more as a dream.
Turtleneck has a cool indie-pop sound that’s primarily shaped by guitars. The vocals are light and lie like daisies on top of the background. It’s easy to appreciate them, because of the emotion they bring.
