The Color Forty Nine hail from San Diego, California, where life just moves at a chill pace. The sunny weather and laid-back vibe could make you want to kick back and relax all day. But for these dudes, that California lifestyle motivated them to chase their dreams and make stellar music.
The band’s third album, A Whisper, is where it all clicks into place. It’s a collection of fresh tunes and previously unreleased gems. The opening track, The Whisper, kicks things off magnificently. Wavy guitar melodies push your shadows against the wall with their arrangement. I’m Getting By marks another track that stays with you, especially because of its experimental production. The violins that float through it sound mystical and create a cinematic atmosphere where anything is possible, which is also echoed by the lyrics.
Jubilee Street, featuring emotive piano, works well. I appreciate how the vocals give the story body, enabling you to follow along. Afternoon Train, the album’s closing cut, deserves major attention as well. The song can be described in one word, phenomenal. It might have to do with the comforting sound of birds over the guitar work.
The Color Forty Nine are blessed with so much talent. Quality and excellence are the hallmarks of A Whisper. Check it out below!
