Have you ever felt betrayal so intense it made your stomach twist? That’s the question underlying The Axe And The Tree, the newest single by alternative pop artist TULLE. Through the use of themes of forgiveness, memory, and emotional scars, the track captures the aching tension of being hurt by a close relative.
TULLE tells the story through a striking metaphor: a tree being cut down by an axe, a haunting image of irreversible change and emotional rupture. Taking cues from Ethel Cain, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lorde, she weaves ghostly synths and somber piano lines into a rich, atmospheric soundscape that feels both intimate and otherworldly.
Produced and mixed by Truls Andersen and mastered by Morgan Nicolaysen, The Axe And The Tree is a cool preview of what’s to come, teasing a larger project that promises to be just as emotionally powerful and beautiful.
