Moongirl is the opening track of Looi’s debut EP titled Western Therapy, released on March 28th. The song reflects on what it meant to be a young Chinese-Malaysian woman living through political turmoil, cultural oppression, and gendered violence. These themes are often overlooked in broader historical narratives.
Moongirl buzzes with urgency but leaves room for introspection, pairing driving guitar lines with tender vocals that oscillate like memory itself. There’s a cinematic quality to the way the track builds, as if the listener is witnessing the moment of dislocation, agency lost, and identity remade.
Looi continues to provide the best music around. Check out Moongirl below!
