There are some songs that are etched into the collective memory of a generation, shared between headphones, and passed down from generation to generation like musical folklore. Broken Social Scene’s Anthems For A Seventeen Year-Old Girl is one of them. Now, over two decades after its release, the track has been lovingly reimagined by Maggie Rogers and Sylvan Esso.
Part of the upcoming tribute project ANTHEMS a full-circle celebration of BSS’s legendary 2003 album You Forgot It In People, this new rendition doesn’t try to recreate the original, it reinterprets it, infusing the melancholic magic of the source material with glowing synthwork, pulsing beats, and Maggie/Sylvan’s unmistakable emotional clarity.
