I Wish You Knew was written after Rue encountered a woman intimidated by her body image while working at Abercrombie & Fitch. Their simple exchange unraveled a lifetime of memories and reflections of her grandmother’s self-criticism, her mother’s inherited insecurities, and Rue’s own inner battles with the mirror.
I Wish You Knew gives ‘the’ opportunity to look at ourselves and each other with softer eyes in a world that’s obsessed with surface-level perfection. It’s Rue at her most intimate and most universal: vulnerable, honest, and full of heart.
