Dutch London-based songwriter and producer charly haze has entered her wistful lo-fi era, and honestly, I’m here for every heart-twisting second of it. Her new single Shake Off, the next taste from her upcoming EP Poly Pop (out September 4 via Kartel Music Group/Domino Publishing), is realer than real.

The song talks about charly’s desire to get closer to someone, but then slowly drifting apart from them. With lines like “thought we were love drunk, but you’re two years sober”, she tackles the sting of mixed signals, unspoken heartbreak, and the struggle to let go of something that never fully began.

Taking inspiration from the synth-driven vibes of New Order and Day Wave, as well as the moody pop edge of Sky Ferreira. Shake Off features shimmering acoustic guitars and distorted, chopped-up vocals, layered over ominous arpeggiators and haunting voice notes snippets. The singing sounds honest, making it truly impactful.

charly knows how to make fantastic music. Check out Shake Off below!
