UK-born, Melbourne-based artist Sianon shares her new single, Halfway Home. It outlines the challenges young female artists face while trying to enter the music industry. “I was told I was overweight at 17, too old at 19,” Sianon shares. “Eventually, it felt like the actual songs counted for nothing.”
Disillusioned and emotionally drained, Sianon left London during the height of the COVID pandemic and moved back in with her parents. At the time, it felt like a failure. But what she found instead was unexpected healing. “I found the version of me that loved music before anyone had an opinion”, Sianon reflects.
That rediscovery is evident in the lyrics and layered harmony of Halfway Home. The track resists convention on purpose. With a running time of 5.5 minutes, it contradicts the rules Sianon was once told to follow.
