Raised down the street from an abortion clinic in Virginia, singer-songwriter Sophia DeLeo had her first encounter with protest culture at age seven, reading a sign that said “Abortion Kills Children.” That moment stayed with her and now fuels her new country/bluegrass-inspired single Til You Do, written the day after Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022. Its lyrics call for empathy and reproductive rights.
The song not only earned DeLeo a spot as a semi-finalist in the 2025 Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk Competition, but also became a vehicle for direct action: for every Spotify pre-save, she donated $1 to the Blue Ridge Abortion Fund, an organization that helps people in Virginia access the reproductive healthcare they need.
