Cherry Makes Waves is a Northern European dream pop and art rock artist. She recently released her debut album, titled Home by Eleven. It’s experimental in terms of production and sound design. Brilliant overall if you ask me.
Yeah serves as the album’s intro, taking you straight into Cherry’s creative mind. One Level Higher follows and features punchy beats within a melodic framework. The vocals sound amazing here, especially when they take on an operatic quality. Regulate Your Mess continues the energy of the previous track and includes some textures that are breathtaking.
Bisket Full remains my favorite track on the project and, to my ears, even uses some New Jack Swing influences. It definitely brings groove. Dancing Like I Know Ya also happens to be a banger. I love how it progresses and relieves stress. Kids Chasing Clocks has a similar vibe to Dancing Like I Know Ya, but with more tension building, which I find appealing.
Bloody Mary sounds abstract and carries hard-hitting beats that could kick off any party. Sad on Internet feels like a natural follow-up and is slightly more melodic. As the calmest track on the record, Sea lets you drift away, also showcasing Cherry’s impressive performance skills very well. High & Dry‘s cinematic feel and beautifully executed chord progression make it the perfect closing track for the album.
Home by Eleven‘s narrative is thoughtful, reaffirming us that no matter how old we become, we’re still kids chasing clocks. Basically, we never lose touch with our youthful curiosity and the urge to achieve our dreams.
For Home by Eleven, Cherry directed and edited all of the music videos (click on this link to view them), providing a visual aesthetic that fully reflect the album’s immersive atmosphere. They’re simply integral to the project, presenting Cherry as a multidisciplinary artist.
