When Indira found herself trapped in a relationship that kept pulling her back under no matter how hard she tried to leave, she reached for a story that had already survived thousands of years.
Her single Persephone reimagines Greek mythology as something we can relate to. In the original myth, Persephone is dragged into the underworld by Hades and bound to return in endless cycles after eating pomegranate seeds, condemned to exist between worlds, never fully belonging to either. Writing her way through a love she couldn’t quite escape, Indira recognized herself in that split existence. The leaving. The being pulled back. The not quite knowing which world is yours anymore.
Indira isn’t the first artist to mine Greek mythology for meaning, but she’s done something more interesting than simple retelling. She’s found herself in Persephone’s story and, in doing so, created a space where others might find themselves too.
