Nalan is going for a walk. That’s the premise of 59:1 (fiftynine to one), and somehow it’s the most affecting thing on the record.
In three minutes and forty-seven seconds Nalan takes you through her streets in Munich, watches the sunset, and admits she’s pretending she’s in New York. It’s a very human thing to do.
The early 2000s creep in without much fanfare. A first kiss, right there. A pub she talked her way into at an age she very much shouldn’t have. The walk stays the same but the song slowly becomes something else, a melancholic flip through the pages of growing up in a city that still holds all the evidence.
The title nods to 59:1, a real independent live club that ran in Munich from 2007 to 2013. Cool fun fact, right?
