Honestly, from Avery Raquel’s new EP is pretty stripped-down. Just her voice and a guitar, which means the lyrics have nowhere to hide. Fortunately, they don’t need to. They’re the whole point.
The song talks about the awkward headspace of loving someone while secretly convinced you’re not quite enough for them. Avery opens wondering whether she even knows what she wants, then immediately turns it around, “but am I who you want me to be?”, and that pivot sets the tone for everything that follows.
