Something carefully chosen should be sweet. That’s the whole point of picking. You take your time, you select the best one, and it’s supposed to be worth it.
Coloma’s single Cherry Picked opens with that betrayal already done. Whatever was supposed to be the good thing turned acidic. And now Coloma is standing in the wreckage of it.
The song moves like a season changing. Early on it’s cold, still, exhausted. But then something shifts. The ice cracks. A warmth shows up that she doesn’t quite have words for yet, just the feeling of it moving through her for the first time. And instead of looking back at what the whole thing could have been, Coloma is standing at the edge of it, ready to push off and not look down.
By the end, Cherry Picked isn’t a sad song anymore. It’s a farewell song. And there’s a huge difference.
