Canadian singer-songwriter Rebecca Lappa has released her much-anticipated new EP, Tales of a Taurus, and it’s an absolute gem. It illustrates her artistic versatility. Each track offers cool quirks and takes you into unfamiliar territory.
Your One opens the project. It’s layered with harmonies and drenched in indie-pop sounds. The production really hits the jackpot. The lyrics are about holding up a mirror so your partner can see how much you love them. Rebecca and her co-writer Dana Blayone wrote this song really fast, and had a lot of fun recording it.
I don’t want to be your one in a million.
I just wanna be your one.
Blue Lips deals with the subject of unrequested love. Its synths complement the singing pleasantly, and maintain a catchy feel. Lolita is possibly the project’s darkest and most compelling track. It’s based on the same-named 1955 novel. Here Rebecca dares to explore the forbidden relationship in the book, one of lust and desire in a sinister situation.
Weightless like a paper doll
Spin with her across the floor
Graceful as a butterfly
Her painted lips are dynamite
Forecast rocks because of its atmospheric backdrop. It has some clever twists and turns throughout, leaving you wondering what’s next. Brick by Brick ends the EP, a modern country tune with subtle slide guitar and floating vocal lines.
Tales of a Taurus is out now!
