Sandra Gonzalez’s new single Toy was written in 2011 and releases now, and somehow the wait only makes it hit stronger. It talks about being wanted in the shadows and ignored in the light, about being someone’s favorite secret and never their real choice, and about the power of finally walking away from that.
I love the production here. A jukebox-style intro opens it and then changes into a synth-leaning alt-pop melody that moves exactly as it should. The vocals are wonderful throughout, brimming with genuine warmth.
Gonzalez really does her own thing, and she deserves credit for that. Check out Toy below!
