Los Angeles-based artist Love, Sophie is no stranger to ears finding her. Past releases have shown up on Spotify’s Fresh Finds: Indie” and Bedroom Pop playlists, and her music has made its way into Amazon and Netflix productions. Call You feels like the next step in a very interesting direction.
Its production sounds gorgeous, featuring impressive layered vocals, unique synths, and a vibey guitar riff. You sink into the sound almost immediately.
And then the lyrics arrive and suddenly you’re very much found.
That’s the move. The sonic world Sophie builds is soft, almost protective, and then the words cut right through it, landing on that pain of wanting to call someone but not knowing whether to. The hook doesn’t let go. It hangs around the way an unanswered call does, replaying in the back of your mind while you convince yourself you’ve forgotten.
