Queer dance-pop artist Kyle Waves has a great new single out called Internet Boy. It explores the complicated experience of being objectified, consumed, and misunderstood online, while reclaiming power and confidence within that dynamic. Through his lyrics, he teases his parasocial listeners, creating a sharp social commentary while still maintaining the dancefloor-ready momentum he’s been known for.
Kyle says: “I’ve been experimenting with the themes and viewpoints in my music lately. I wanted to highlight my experience of being objectified and viewed as a product or something that people can play with, just because I post myself or my work online. It’s an experience that I know I share with a lot of gay men, in particular, when it comes to online culture.”
The production here is convincing and has the vibe of the future. You’ll love the echoing synths and pulsing electronic rhythms. The vocal layering is brilliant, clearly a lot of thought has gone into it.
Kyle delivers something interesting again with Internet Boy. Check it out below!
