Acclaimed London-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Common Saints (known for his work with Olivia Dean, Jorja Smith, and BTS) possesses a unique creative aura. This is clearly evident on his new and long-awaited EP, Age Of Illusions, released via Starsonics. Today, I’ll be going through the tracks, each of which is, in my opinion, a true masterpiece with real character.
Illusions opens the EP, a song that reflects on modern life. The lyrics are poetic, inviting you to ask yourself questions about what truly matters, like, are you really present or not? The track is underpinned by atmospheric synths and a genuinely infectious percussion/drum groove.
Soothsayer follows, offering a more uplifting sound with guitar work that leaves trails of light behind. It encourages taking chances, speaking your truth, and following your own path, even when the destination isn’t entirely clear. A message we can fully get behind.
On the third track, Kaos, I particularly love the piano work, though the electric bassline is equally iconic. Narratively, the song centers on finding peace, comfort, and emotional release in the presence of another person.
Stargaze shares a similar sonic vibe with the previous track, and it works just as well. The focus here shifts to the state of the world, exploring themes of war, political division, and humanity’s repeated failure to learn from history.
Last but not least, we have the fantastic Night Light, featuring punchy drums and an altsax section that brings some jazzy vibes. Throughout the song, Common Saints tell you to trust on the people around you rather than facing your struggles alone, because you don’t have to suffer in isolation. His advice counts, and should be followed.
I can say with absolute certainty that Common Saints has delivered. I love this project, and it deserves your full attention, so don’t let it pass you by. Check out Age Of Illusions below!
