Toronto-based musician Andrew Champion founded indie rock project The City Feels. He relies on personal stories to give what he writes substance, which is obviously one of his strengths.
Recently, the group released a new EP, The Great Now, including the compelling focus tune The City Feels (like home). Inspired by Champion’s walks through Toronto’s Trinity Bellwoods neighborhood, the song’s lyrics center around learning to embrace yourself and discovering a place that finally feels like home. Looking back on past struggles and self-doubt, he realizes he has found both acceptance and hope, which he sees reflected in the community and streets around him.
The sound of The City Feels (like home) is marvelous. It builds momentum primarily through powerful guitars and punchy drums. The vocals, which float around the instrumentation, are so convincing and present interesting dynamics.
The City Feels (like home) will certainly make you curious about the rest of the EP, but it also makes a powerful impression all by itself. You won’t forget it easily. Start listening below!
