Singer/songwriter Zola Simone seems to be a fan of Justin Bieber and Justin Timberlake, judging by her new single I’M NOT DESPERATE, which features LA-based rapper KESHORE. It sounds like a mix of the two, which is certainly admirable.
The production throughout is outstanding, with the beat in particular appealing to me. Aside from that, the performances are very convincing.
Lyrically, there’s nothing to complain about here. Drawing from her own past relationship, Zola explores the internal battle between wanting answers, questioning past mistakes, and confronting personal hypocrisy.
Zola always manages to present herself as strongly creative and doesn’t sweep honesty aside either, as is evident in I’M NOT DESPERATE. Check it out now!
