Ella Aslin grew up in rural New Mexico, where her love for music began with her parents, who raised her on 70s folk, rock, and bluegrass. She recently released Be With Her. It features a solid indie pop-rock arrangement that’s driven by punchy drums, shimmering synths, smooth bass, and cool guitar tones. The vocals are amazing, wrapping themselves wonderfully around the instruments.
Be With Her explores the challenging resolve to channel your feelings for someone into your friendship with them in order to keep them in your life because you value that person so much, but at its core, the song talks about unconditional friendship, navigating queer experiences, expressing identity, and giving unspoken feelings a place in the world.
Be With Her is easily one of my favorite releases of the year so far. Check it out below!
