Hamilton, ON-born singer-songwriter Ariana Fig steps into a new chapter with her debut full-length album, So Long, Sinnerstate!. Following two independently released EPs, the record expands her folk-pop sound into a broader collection of songs about identity, ambition, and figuring out who you are along the way. Fig draws from her own experiences, but also from literature, film, and imagined perspectives.
The title track, So Long, Sinnerstate!, serves as a nostalgic look at the dreams Fig had when she was younger and the person she has grown into since. Inspired partly by MJ Lenderman’s Manning Fireworks and Briston Maroney’s JIMMY, the song has a reflective quality without losing sight of the future.
I love So Long, Sinnerstate!‘s arrangement, which mixes different textures from country music. Ariana’s vocals are striking with their dynamic tone. She truly nails each note.
