Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Alaina May recently released Tourniquet, a tender song about reaching the point where you know a relationship has to end, even when part of you still wants it back. Written during May’s first year in New York, the song straddles the line between holding on and accepting that you have to let go.
The acoustic arrangement unfolds gradually, with soft guitar work and subtle layers that keep the track intimate without leaving it bare. There’s a natural rise in the instrumentation as it develops, giving certain moments extra weight before pulling back again. Alaina’s vocals stay close to the center of it all. She truly kills it.
With Torniquet, Alaina offers something something deeply personal without making it feel distant from the listener. Check it out below!
