Val Giamo is a Russian composer, currently living in Gothenburg, Sweden.
She recently released her second album People You Will Never Meet.
One of the highlights is George. It’s a touching song. The dialogues between piano and cello are well-balanced. Captivating from beginning to end.
Speaking about the album, Giamo says: ”The album concept was inspired by a particular scene from my favourite film Wings of Desire, directed by Wim Wenders. In this scene, an angel is walking through a subway and hearing pieces of the thoughts of those he passes. I got an idea to continue the thoughts of those passengers, had the angel stayed to listen longer. And so, began my experimentation with words and sounds. The results so far have been a small monologue, accompanied by a musical composition, which is the auditory perception of the people’s thoughts.”
Giamo creates an atmosphere. Artistically, she’s brilliant. Her talent speaks for itself. George deserves to be heard. Iconic work.
