If there is one artist that has blown up in the last year to keep your eye on, it has to be GAYLE. The multiplatinum teenage artist skyrocketed to fame after her 2021 single abcdefu went viral. For many, at first glance GAYLE could seem like the typical pissed off rock-princess. Underneath the surface, though, her star shines way brighter than you would ever guess.
Merely eighteen years old, GAYLE contains the edgy spark of an old soul. Her latest single god has a sense of humor (released shortly before the start of her first headline tour, we might add) is absolutely a testament to just how deep Gayle can dig. The track weaves an emotionally compelling story of how GAYLE lost a friend at a young age. This changed her perspective on life. Grief and loss can drastically change the course of our lives, and as humans we are constantly searching for outlets for our pain and confusion. GAYLE imparts some wonderful pop-wisdom with god has a sense of humor, and you’ll quickly find yourself laughing along with her pain because it’s a shared pain. Loneliness, moving on, accepting yourself — these are all complex and universal experiences that can draw our tears, ugliness, and even our laughter out. With artists like GAYLE who are so dedicated to these emotions, the gap between artist and listener becomes smaller. god has a sense of humor, though funny in name, provides catharsis for both artist and listener, and only justifies GAYLE’s inevitable stardom.
