It’s hard enough when a relationship ends slowly, but when it’s over in the blink of an eye, it’s as if your world has collapsed. You’re left speechless, trying to make sense of what happened. All your hopes and dreams for the future just vanished, and you’re not sure you’ll ever be able to pick up the pieces.
Yumi Ito’s new single, Is It You, deals with a broken relationship. It brings up the associated feelings of guilt in view of possible injuries, as well as self-confrontation and self-forgiveness.
The song’s instrumental reflects these tensions. The opening segment is full of longing, featuring a striking cello figure. But halfway through the song, it shifts into a driving groove, thanks to Ito’s piano playing.
The singer’s voice has a lot of character and depth. She never resorts to simply singing louder in order to show off; rather, she finds ways to modulate her voice and maintain the same level of intensity throughout the song.
Is It You manages to impress on every level. Only a few tracks are as iconic as this one. Make sure you check it out today!
